I have been a silversmith for 2 years and have loved working with gemstones and sterling silver. I make all my creations with loving care, making them as though they are for family or friends. Each piece is original with no duplicates made and signed by myself.

It has always amazed me how many different kinds of gemstones there are but my favorites are fire agates, opals, turquoise and jaspers. I am hoping that potential buyers realize the effort that goes into making jewelry of my caliber. All are treasures to enjoy forever!

Collage is my medium. I love to assemble all sorts of paper, images, pressed flowers, poetry and just about anything to make my artwork. I also make digital collages. This year I am pressing wildflowers to blend into handmade paper for the Redbud Festival.

I love circles, and paint mandala with assorted media, including acrylic, watercolor pencil and metallic pens.

I work in my Three Rivers studio, which is open every other year for the Three Rivers Artists’ Biennial Studio Tour. The next one is on March 23-24-25 in 2012.

Yes, a gardener is an artist, creating beautiful “Plant Paintings.”

The Redbud Garden Club, one of the founding groups of the Redbud Festival 38 years ago, will again be selling a large variety of plants for your own gardens. The Redbud Garden Club has designed and planted five public native plant gardens in Three Rivers.

Redbud Festival Artist: Jean Chaffee

Jean Chaffee has been involved in the Fresno Chaffee Zoo for more than 25 years as a zoo docent as a result of her marriage to Dr. Paul Chaffee. She is the zoo historian. Her research has resulted in 6 children’s books titled: “Nosey the Elephant”, “Moja the Lion Goes to the Dentist”, “Azak Learns to Read”, “Bulgy, Bubbles, and Babies” and “Longo’s New Shoes” and “Nosey’s Big Move.” The stories are based on true accountings of the animals. These books will be available at the Redbud Festival.

Among her other many zoo activities, she leads tours, handles raptors (owls, hawks, and kestrels) for the public, and gives talks throughout the valley to civic organizations, schools, and local groups.

Jean has had the privilege of seeing all of the featured animals during her travels to more than 63 countries. She loves learning about the indigenous cultures of Africa, South America, and the United States. In her spare time, Mrs. Chaffee enjoys her family and four young grandchildren who are her best critics.

Redbud Festival Artist: Mary Thompson

Mary Thompson, owner of Thompson’s Treasures, started selling her crafts over 25 years ago at small craft shows. In the beginning, her products were crocheted items and needlework. While vacationing in Arizona, she became interested in the multitude of gemstones and jewelry findings, so she tried her hand at making jewelry and decided she really enjoyed it.

Her jewelry made business grow, so she started going to bigger shows in Southern California. In 2000 Mary moved to Central California and started doing a few shows, but decided she was too old to set up and take down all the time. She now has a small shop at the Squaw Valley Trading Center in Squaw Valley, California, the real town on Highway 180 which is the main road to Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park (not the ski area).

Redbud Festival Artist: Ron Zanni

Ron Zanni has been making decorative wooden boxes only since his retirement from teaching in 2002, so the path to boxes you see here has been short and intense – and also, convoluted. He calls his collection the Springville Box Company.

It began with the desire to display flowers he had picked and pressed. Using woods locally available to his home in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Central California, he began to design unique frames to hold dried flower arrangements pressed between glass. Soon, the framed flowers became the lids for boxes. Then, inlaid wood designs, patterned resin and marquetry designs followedas the enjoyment of trying “something different” flourished.

Most of Ron’s boxes are truly “one-of-a-kind” with the use of spalted, distressed, patterned, burl, or otherwise unusual woods to create something totally unique which can never be duplicated. Most of the woods are milled, cured, planed and sawn by Ron himself from the California “urban forest” (flowering pear, sycamore, walnut, orange, olive, pecan, ;iquidamber) or from his own California foothill property (oak, California laurel, mountain mahogany, California buckeye, manzanita, ceanothus).
